Spark is hiring a Community Manager

Spark is growing and we are looking for a Community Manager.

General Job Description:

The Community Manager will directly oversee all aspects related to the Member and volunteer experience at Spark Makerspace. This includes helping Members map out getting the most out of their Spark experience as well as coordinating volunteer service opportunities that align individual talent/aptitude with Spark needs; working to find organizations that have volunteer programs we can work with that best fit Spark Makerspace’s purpose and mission; and maintaining membership database of information, working hands-on to best guide our members to their best paths of enriching opportunities at Spark.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage system for volunteer programing, one beneficial to the individuals, based on their talents and interests.

  • Responsible for addressing the needs and wants of Spark members to ensure the best experiences possible (what classes they want and improvements to workstations).

  • Oversee tours and general orientations of Spark Makerspace including process for signing up and onboarding new Members.

  • Oversee recruitment, training, placement, and scheduling of volunteers to fully staff and support Spark’s spaces and events.

  • Create and manage a functioning database to track member and volunteer interests, including their path through orientations and classes to achieve their creative goals and passions.

  • Oversee production of Spark e-newsletter with targeted communication strategy.  

  • Showcase examples of Members making, community projects, and member-of-the-month program through the Spark blog, social media, etc.

  • Manage Spark Working Members to improve Spark’s engagement and presence on all social media platforms.

  • Cultivate and manage Spark Collaborative Membership program including finalizing Contracts and Memorandums of Understanding.

  • May be asked to assist other staff with additional unrelated tasks or projects as needed.

Qualifications for This Position:

  • Working knowledge and comfort with collaborative digital platforms including Google drive, wordpress websites, and email marketing.

  • Experience with or the ability to master a Customer Relationship Management database system for nonprofits.

  • Excellent communication skills to work with (and sometimes lead) a variety of different people including volunteers, colleagues, superiors, and community members.

  • Strong external communication skills to appropriately represent Spark Makerspace and support ongoing relationship development.

  • Great organizational and multitasking skills.

  • Strong writing ability to create content for Spark blog, website, and newsletter.

  • Experience in coordinating, leading, and managing large groups of people.

  • Prefered experience in Nonprofit management, as well as the education field.

  • Interest in or respect for supporting and enabling creativity in the community.
