Spark Stories: TV Stand Becoming a Cutting Board

Spark Member Roy Thomas is a professional photographer who lives in Niantic and is part of the team making the Photography workstation happen. His business specializes in family portraiture.

Roy visited Tim McGuire in the wood shop last week to get help on a project with his son to transform an old TV stand his own father had made into something useful he and his sister could enjoy: this cutting board!

Check out the note from Roy and videos of his son helping below.

In Roy's words:

The object my 11 year old son Weston is taking apart is a tv stand for the old tube style tv’s common in the 60’s. My father designed and made this piece among others. He was an artist. He passed at age 67 in 2001 and my son never met him. I thought the wood would make beautiful cutting boards. My sister and I could use on a daily basis to remind us of him.

I like teaching my son to respect the “energy” of creation and honor the creator by repurposing.

Nice upcycling with a sentimental element – nice to have 3 generations of makers on this project.
